Grade 8 & 9 Concert Band Final Playing Exam

You will be marked on the following:
Tone (Percussion: Technique)
Posture and Playing Position
Notes and Fingerings (Percussion: Rudiments)
Breath Marks and Phrasing (Percussion: Stickings and Phrasings)
Dynamic Contrast and Articulation

Method Book Material
Band 8:
- Individual Solo Material on page 32. You will be playing with the accompaniment that can be found here:

- Concert B Flat Major Scale memorized ascending and descending
- Concert F Major Scale memorized ascending and descending
- Sightreading piece

Band 9:
- Individual Solo Material on page 38. You will be playing with the accompaniment so practice with the cd!
- Concert B Flat Major Scale memorized ascending and descending
- Concert F Major Scale memorized ascending and descending
- Sightreading piece

Anything from the first two rhythm pages

Class time will be spent on getting ready for your in-class final playing exam. Once you are done, you may spend your time studying and reviewing for other classes. Please make sure you sign up for a playing test spot.

All playing exams will take place in the choir room. Please bring your method book to your exam so that you can return it. Good luck!

Senior Concert Band

After the year end concert, you are responsible for your final playing exam and filing some music in the music library. Maintaining the music library is part of your mark in concert band. The music rooms will be open for you to work on your final playing exams and to file the concert band pieces.

Your final playing exam may be done in person for Ms. Workman or you may submit a video. These must be completed by June 20th, 2014.

Monday, June 9th - Thursday, June 12th:

practice for your final playing exam or file music
Friday, June 13th: normal spare

Monday, June 16th - Thursday, June 19th:

practice for your final playing exam or file music

Friday, June 20th: normal spare

Please note that Friday, June 20th is the cut off date for marks and final playing exams will not be accepted after that date. The final playing exam is worth 20% of your overall grade. Please take personal instruments home as of Thursday, June 12th and return school instruments. The music rooms will be open during exam weeks and the security of the instruments cannot be guaranteed.
